This is the page where you let someone know you believe in them. I'll get things started.
Krumping Friends 11/1/09
Kingdom Radically Uplifted Mighty Praise. I wouldn’t even know what K.R.U.M.P. stood for if I wasn’t for Jasmine. That’s the fun thing about friendship and being in the right place at the right time. One of the things I am learning as I go on my own adventures, is that part of the game is to find people who are doing what you love and learn from them.
Paul Perroni found actors in Chicago. Michele found dancers in St. Louis. And I found Jasmine in Los Angeles. We did screenwriting camp together. Jasmine has this fun, quirky sense of humor that comes through in her work, including her short film, Kate Wakes - which is full of truth and vulnerability. As our mentor told her, “She is a subtle writer”.
What I admire about Jasmine is that she knows this about herself and is keenly aware of what she likes about movies. So, while I have been wondering around a bit trying to give myself permission to like what I really like (superheroes and westerns - by the way) – she continues to be drawn to powerful stories that only she can tell.
We have had some great conversations about characters, what people do under stress, and how they are shaped by their past. Ultimately, this led me to learn about Krumping. Which is actually a beautiful combination of dance and praise. She mentioned featuring it in one of her movies – and I decided to look it up – since I didn’t know anything about it. What fun. She has a really great scene that is going to involve saving the day through this dance. I know - krumping saving the day – how fun is that.
So Here's to Jasmine - Thanks for the encouragement, friendship and for knowing what you like and - helping me to find it! I believe in you.
