Dear Dehra,
Thank you for taking the time to speak
with me after my little talk last Sunday at the Kemp. It is also great that we
have the same sensitivities regarding the endless wonderful world of children.
I was thinking about our brief but special conversation about developing
creative minds.
When I sat on the bed with one of my
grand kids as they were going to sleep, I would often tell them a story. All my
grand kids love my stories. The child I mentioned was very very bashful and
insecure. When he was 5, he was afraid to ride through Small World at
Disneyland. I would tell him a story with the same theme. It was him and he
could fly. He wasn't a super hero..... he was just him..... a lucky kid who
could fly. I would describe to him how all his friends would marvel at his
ability and say things like.... "Whoa.... look it's Cameron zooming over
the playground." Cameron started asking what did he do next. After a while
he started telling me stories about him flying and other fun and adventurous
exploits. He projected himself into his "dream" stories and
eventually cracked open a welcoming door into the reality of life. Cameron is
13 and is a straight A student. He plays soccer and Lacrosse, and oh yes.... he
has ridden through the Small World with grandpa Paul many times. This little
story is simply meant to point out to you how much I understand and appreciate
the important work you do working with the childhood dreams in your area. Keep
up the wonderful work and I am proud to have met the special person that you
are..... God Bless you.
Your new friend in California,
Paul Tapia
